Your Questions Answered
How do I get started?
Click here for the steps to take to get started with your first class at Relevé!
Which classes should I take?
The style you decide to take depends a lot on preference. If you like high energy movement and music, try hip-hop, jazz or tap. If you want to build a strong dance fondation, we usually recommend ballet and/or tap first. If you want a unique skill set, try Latin ballroom or Hula. We have so much to offer! After you register for your trial class through our online system, one of our team members will contact you directly to work with you to find the perfect class, or classes, for you or your young dancer.
What is the best age to start dance classes?
Our youngest students are 18-24 months in our Big & Little program! Many parents, however, choose to start their children between age 3-7, but that isn't a hard and fast rule. We've had students start as late as age 15 who have gone on to receive college dance scholarships and chose to make dance their career or just wanted to try dance for fun. It is never too late to start dancing! Our oldest student was a 70 year-young tapper! Dance is for everyone.
What dance attire and shoes will I need for class?
Check out the Relevé dress code here. A couple of local dancewear stores are Karabel Dancewear and Capezio Dance Shop. You can also order online through these two recommended sites, Dancewear Solutions and Discount Dancewear. For specialized Relevé items, check out our online store and merchandise for sale at the studio. We also carry clothing and shoes for sale on location at our studio. If you have a specific question we have not covered, shoot us an email or give us a call. We love to help!
How do I know if my son or daughter is ready for class?
Does your child naturally love to dance when you play music? Can your child walk and follow very simple instructions? Are you getting ready to enroll your child in pre-school or day care and want to give them a fun and nurturing classroom experience beforehand? Is your child a born entertainer? Or is your child very shy and reticent, and you would like to slowly get them involved in a recreational class to help them along? Does your child need to incorporate a fun fitness activity afterschool to keep them active and healthy? These are all fantastic reasons to start your child in dance class!
What can I expect when I arrive for my first class?
Once you've registered through our online system, and a member of our team has contacted you to square away your first class, you'll arrive at the studio 10-15 minutes early to sign in at the Front Desk. A member of our team will then introduce you to your instructor and show you into the studio. You'll be on your way to experiencing a great first dance class! Parents can relax in our lobby and watch the class on our viewing screen or run a quick errand.
(Parents of young children may feel free to watch the first class from within the classroom if your child is feeling reticent to go to their first class, with the end goal of allowing your child to thrive on their own in subsequent classes. Our teachers are very good about helping this process along for our youngest students! They can work with you to help your child through this very normal transition!)

Can I start classes any time?
Yes, absolutely! Our program has year-round enrollment. You can join at anytime and get prorated tuition.
How do I know what level to register?
Once you've registered through our online system, a member of our team will contact you to confirm your registration and what class might be best. As a general rule of thumb, stay within your age groupings. If you've never danced before or are trying a style of dance for the first time, choose a beginning class (I or I-II). If you have danced for 3-5 years, look in the intermediate levels (II-III). If you have danced elsewhere for 6 or more hours per week, register for a (III), and we will evaluate you on site to see if you would be better off in a (IV or V) advanced level. Your instructor will notify the Front Desk if a change needs to be made, and we can quickly adjust for the following week. Easy!
How do students progress to the next level?
Our instructors constantly evaluate and update the director on each of their student's progress throughout the year according to the Relevé Syllabus. If an adjustment needs to be made mid-term, we notify the parent of our recommendation to adjust levels. Leveling officially happens in the Spring, usually late March or early April. After the June recital, evaluation sheets are handed out with the instructor and director's recommendations for enrollment and notes on each student's progress. Every student will progress at a different rate, and that is okay!
(Students who continue to dance through the summer, rather than taking a break until Aug/Sept, tend to progress much more quickly though, as well as students who have great class attendance throughout the year. Relevé has a wonderful summer vacation policy if you want to enroll for the summer but know you will be doing a bit of travel. Ask us about it!)
What performance opportunities are available?
Relevé regularly performs at several community events throughout the year! (School fundraisers, holiday shows, nursing homes, festivals, parties and more...) The Little Daisy Fund produces an annual crowd-favorite where students can participate in student-choreographed numbers as performers or choreographers! Our music students have multiple music recital opportunities to show their progress. Relevé has also produced several musicals over the last few years like Annie, Into the Woods, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Alice In Wonderland and more! Our competitive dance team offers even more performance opportunities. Every June Relevé produces a Broadway-like extravaganza that features all our dance students in an astounding year-end dance recital!
Is Relevé a recreational or pre-professional studio?
Relevé is both! We have a thriving recreational program for students who just want to have fun and take 1-3 classes a week. We also make sure there are plenty of opportunities, complimented by high-level training for those students who think they might want to choose dance as a career. Which ever path you and your child choose, Relevé prides itself in offering the highest standard of dance training available from a team of nurturing, trained professionals.
Do you have a dance competition team?
Yes, Relevé Studios offers the opportunity to participate in a competative dance program to those students who want to push their skills to the next level. We've had great success with our competitive dance program, not to mention tons of fun! We have 4 teams: Elevé, Assemblé, Boys Hip-Hop Crew and Latin Ballroom.

Students who are interested in assisting a teacher throughout the year must take the 2-hour, free training course, be enrolled in the style they want to TA and have a passion for helping others and working with children. TA's assist classes that are at least 4 years younger than themselves. TA experience looks great on college applications, serves as community service for most schools and prepares a student who may be considering a career in teaching. TA's work for experience only.
