Classes Offered
Classes are 60 minutes, unless indicated otherwise. Classes for age 4 and under are 45 minutes, unless indicated otherwise.
ARC: ARC classes have an Attendance Requirement Contract that must be signed by students (and guardians for those under 18) at registration. These classes may also have a prerequisite, or require attendance in multiple classes to keep up technique.
Dance
- African 12+: With this African Class comes: Rhythmic awakening, an overall work out, a cardio work out, tons of fun, and fluidity of moves. Very fun class that starts with a general warm up, then goes into specific moves introducing/involving African dance, to finish up with a routine. All that is wrapped up in an uplifting African musical universe.
- Ballet 2-4: This 45-minute class is designed for our youngest dancers, who want to express their independence without the assistance of their parent. Dancers will have fun learning ballet movements and their proper terms all while dancing to popular children's music and playing movement games. Each student will also learn valuable social skills such as, taking turns, sharing, and staying in your space bubble. Props, such as, boas, ribbons, and maracas are used to enhance the learning experience.
- Ballet I 4-5: The foundation of all dance styles, this hour-long class is a fantastic introductory class. Children will learn the most basic steps and vocabulary in a nurturing, fun environment. Mixed into the hour is the use of creative exercises and games to encourage imaginations, performing skills, vocabulary, and step-recall.
- Ballet I 5-7: This is the perfect age to begin laying the foundation of all dance styles - ballet. Students in this class are capable of learning a lot of the basic vocabulary and steps (turns, leaps, positions, etc.) that will help them in future dance classes, as well as building grace and strength helping them in everyday life. This class is a great mixture of work, fun, and work disguised as fun.
- Ballet I 7-10: The foundation of all dance styles. Technique is taught with a focus on understanding the body and how it works, coordination, musicality, strength, flexibility, etiquette, and discipline. Steps and vocabulary increase by level.
- Ballet (all levels): The foundation of all dance styles. Technique is taught focusing on the understanding of the body, its use in the dance style, coordination, musicality, strength building, flexibility and discipline. Introduction of steps and vocabulary increases by level.
- Ballet II-III 13+: ARC See ballet (all levels) description above. Co-requirement: Student must be enrolled in one D-TECH class per week.
- Pointe: ARC Focuses on ballet technique while working on strengthening ankles and feet, learning to control one's body on pointe. Class admittance based on instructor and owner approval. Co-requirements: Student must be attending 2 additional ballet classes per week.
- Ballet/Tap Combo 4-5: This class offers foundations in two dance styles for the younger student in need of variety. Students learn basic vocabulary and steps for both ballet and tap, plus fun movement games, rhythm, musicality, routines, and class structure.
- D-TECH: Barre Workout 13+: (Dancer's Technique) If you are looking to improve your technique as a dancer, are a retired ballerina, or just want a low-impact workout this class is for you! Dancers will start at the barre doing various exercises to strengthen those awkward muscles that we only use in dance, but that give us those nice long legs. You’ll move into repetition of turns with assistance of the barre, which is great for beginners. Then eventually get into some conditioning of the core and back. Everyone works at their own pace and combinations are tailored for your specific needs. Anyone at any age can take this class and be successful at it.
- D-TECH: Turns & Leaps 9+: (Dancer's Technique) Feeling dizzy when you turn, having trouble staying up on that double/triple pirouttes, need some new exciting tricks? This is your class. Learn some key techniques that will guarantee you nail those turns. Get some essential stretches that will help the extension and height of those jetés. Also work on some innovative combinations of leaps and turns that will enhance your skill level in all styles of dance. Some more advanced steps include fouetté turns, second turns, switch leaps, reverse leaps and more. Remember it’s always good to brush up on those basics.
- D-TECH: Pro Intensive 9+: (Dancer's Technique): A 90-minute performance based class for dancers who are looking to take their training to the next level. Class focuses on intense technique and execution of turns, leaps, jumps and progressions while also working flexibility and endurance through intense stretching/toning excersises. Recommended for any dancer who is interesed in competitive dance experience and/or improving flexibility and technique. 45 minutes--stretching/toning; 45 minutes---technique based training.

This group is for the dedicated dancer who displays drive and an unwavering work ethic. Continued growth in technique and performance skills and a great attitude are required. Company has a duel purpose of competing in dance competitions and community events through out the year.
- Ballet/Jazz Combo 6-8: A combination of Ballet and Jazz, this class is a fantastic introductory class to dance. Children will learn the most basic steps and vocabulary in a nurturing, fun environment. In addition, the teacher uses creative exercises and games to encourage imaginations, performing skills, vocabulary, and step-recall. (Class is 45 minutes.)
- Ballet I 7-18: Differs from other Ballet classes only in the music used - this class uses more contemporary and less classical music for training. - Mommy & Me 1-2: Youngsters will learn fun dance-related activities, basic dance steps, and stretches in a fun, safe environment with Mom or Dad. (Open to ages 16 months thru 2 years. Must be able to walk.)
- Contemporary Ballet II 10-16: This dynamic class is grounded in classical ballet technique set to modern music. The contemporary ballet style permits occasional sequences within choreography that allow freedom to explore a greater range of motion that may not always adhere to the strict body lines of classical ballet. This class is considered a ballet class, not a contemporary class, and the Relevé ballet dress code should be followed.
- Ballet/Broadway 2-5: Your young student will love learning their ballet basics in this fun and upbeat class. Children not only learn early ballet vocabulary and movement, they also get to sing, dance and act out some of their favorite songs. When movement is paired with multiple senses, that movement becomes more enjoyable to learn and is associated with emotion, story, and sounds which will increase confidence, retention, coordination, and social development.
- Jazz Fusion 11+: A dynamic jazz based class that may infuse other styles of dance any given week. Afro-jazz, Latin Jazz, Bolly-jazz, anything goes in this class, and that's what makes it so fun. This one class is a great way to broaden your dance resume and let loose in styles you may have never imagined trying, all in the comfort of technical jazz roots.
- Latin Ballroom I 7-18: A fun way to learn to partner up and learn how to dance like the stars. You will learn coordination, movement, and dancing steps (cha cha, samba, rumba, jive, swing, tango, salsa, waltz, foxtrot and more). No partner needed for these group classes.
- Latin Ballroom 16+: A fun way to learn to partner up and learn how to dance like the stars. You will learn coordination, movement, and dancing steps. All are great for social events or even competitions. Bring a partner or come stag, all are welcome!
- Latin Ballroom I-II 6-18: A fun way to learn to partner up and learn how to dance like the stars. You will learn coordination, movement, and dancing steps (cha cha, samba, rumba, jive, swing, tango, salsa, waltz, foxtrot and more). No partner needed for these group classes.
- Latin Ballroom II 9-18: A fun way to learn to partner up and learn how to dance like the stars. You will learn coordination, movement, and dancing steps (cha cha, samba, rumba, jive, swing, tango, salsa, waltz, foxtrot and more). No partner needed for these group classes.
- Pre-Ballroom: Ballet & Latin 5-7: Ballroom technique basics along with a foundation of ballet allignment.
- Adult Salsa 18+: Learn how to move like Fred and Ginger, This adult class teaches how to couple dance even without a partner, learn the salsa, chacha, East coast swing or even waltz! This class helps you lose weight, learn to coordinate movement, and improve posture and presentation skills. Everyone welcome even people with two left feet !
- Mini Musical Theatre 3-8:
An 8-week fun class where we discover the joy of dancing, singing and acting. Your child will enhance their movement, singing and imaginative abilities. Class focuses on learning, songs, simple choreography and acting out scenes from popular Broadway plays. (Selections have been from "The Lion King", "Annie", "Mary Poppins", "The Wizard of Oz", "Peter Pan", "Hairspray" and more.) Children will also play dress up, dance with props and use their own creativity to make up original stories. The final class is a showcase where your little thespians share with you a mini musical. $330 per semester or $180 per musical.

- Broadway Jazz I 6-8: Very stylized, show-themed numbers are the concentration of this class. Children will learn the most basic dance steps and vocabulary in a nurturing, fun environment. Creative exercises are used to encourage imaginations, performing skills, vocabulary, and step-recall. Steps and vocabulary increase by level.
- Broadway Jazz II-III 9-12: ARC Very stylized, show-themed numbers are the concentration of this class. Turns, leaps, core strength, flexibility, and attack and follow-through of movement are a focus in the warm-up, across-the-floor, center work, and combinations. A very heavy emphasis is placed on performance skills and the ability to pick up choreography and style. Singing and acting skills will be exercised from time to time in this class. Steps and vocabulary increase by level. Students may be asked to dance in character shoes.
- Broadway Jazz II 13+: High energy class that involves proper body placement and alignment, stretches, and jazz technique while improving flexibility, strength, and musicality. Dancers also incorporate their individual expression and develop their personal style through characterization work. Broadway soundtracks and music are used in this class. Students may be asked to dance in character shoes.
- Musical Theatre Workshop 7-18: ARC Fall 2011 production will be You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. A 12-week session where students will learn full musical- theatre scenes. Students will be acting, singing and dancing! This workshop concludes with a performance on the weekend of December 2-4. Must attend all Friday classes, tech & dress rehearsals, and performances. Cost is $550.

- Flamenco 7+: ARC Passionate and vibrant dance style with coordinated footwork, arm work, handwork and skirt work. Flamenco dance and music consists of several rhythms, which are taught one by one, in its entirety. Commitment and emotional vulnerability are required for this class. All levels are offered.
- Hawaiian 8+: This class is for students who are familiar with the basic footwork, hip and hand movements associated with Hawaiian and Tahitian dance. This fast-paced class covers Hula Kahiko (ancient chants), Hula Au'ana (modern hula), Tahitian O'tea (drum dances) and Tahitian Aparima (Tahitian "hand dance" similar to hula). We also learn proper technique and dances using all the Hawaiian implements: ipu, uli uli, pu'ili and kala'au.
- Keiki Hawaiian (for kids) 4-5:
Learn to hula in a fun & exciting environment. Students wear traditional pa'u skirts in class and learn the basic hand and foot movements used in both ancient and modern hula. We start with "Kawika" - one of the four foundation numbers. Students become familiar with the Hawaiian language and learn to chant while they perform the ancient polynesian dances. We learn many modern hulas and tahitian drum dances.
- Adult Hawaiian 16+: This class is an hour filled with aerobic exercise and leg/core toning movements found in the traditional Polynesian dances. Learn to dance both graceful slow hulas and envigorating Tahitian O'teas (drum dances). (This class is okay for beginners.)
- Half-Pint Hip-Hop™ 3-4: Yes your little one can be funky too! This high-energy class is all about learning rhythm, body awareness, spatial awareness (staying in your space bubble), and simple choreography. Your hip hopper will enhance their coordination, musicality and creative thought while dancing to children's music set to a hip hop beat.
- Hip Hop I-II 8-12: Fun, relaxed, and energetic learning environment to learn simple and effective hip-hop.
- Hip Hop II-III 9-18: For an experienced dancer who is looking to grow in a fun and energetic learning environment.
- Hip Hop 13+ (open level) 13+: Advanced, intricate, and diverse styles in a relaxed atmosphere.
- Hip Hop: Step/Stomp 10-18: A form of percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps. Though stepping may be performed by an individual, it is generally performed by groups of three or more, often in arrangements that resemble military formations. Stepping may also draw from elements of gymnastics, tap dance, march, or African and Caribbean dance, or include advanced stunts as a part of individual routines. Some forms of stepping include the use of props, such as canes, rhythm sticks and/or fire and blindfolds. The tradition of African American stepping is rooted within the competitive schoolyard song and dance rituals practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities, beginning in the mid-1900s.

- Michael Jackson Repertoire 12+: We (USA) have had a lot of Icons and entertainers that influenced the art of dancing. With their personality, talent, and commitment they definitely leave a mark in our lives as person, as artist, as dancer. Michael Jackson was for sure one of them, a knowledgeable artist ahead of his time. Our teacher, T-vain had the major honor of being hired as a background dancer on "THIS IS IT". Using MJ tracks T-vain leads you to:warm up, teach moves, teach MJ grooves, get familiar with some of the dance styles that he knew and performed (Funk, Disco, Popping, Jazz, Fosse). Fun class that will work you up till you do the moonwalk and enjoy Michael Jackson’s essence.
- Hip Hop (adult) 18+: A class specifically for adults. Fun, relaxed, and energetic learning environment to learn simple and effective hip-hop. Great exercise!

- Break / Old School 8+: Also known as Breakdancing
- Boys Hip Hop Crew 8-18: The Releve Boys Hip Hop Crew will focus on bringing together ONLY male youth (8 yrs & Up) in a positive environment to teach the basic, intermediate, and advanced levels of Hip Hop Dancing. The Crew will also focus on fun, age appropriate choreography that will be showcased at several events throughout the local California area, with efforts in getting National recognition. The Crew will be instructed and supervised by experienced positive male role models.

- Ballet/Jazz Combo 6-8: A combination of Ballet and Jazz, this class is a fantastic introductory class to dance. Children will learn the most basic steps and vocabulary in a nurturing, fun environment. In addition, the teacher uses creative exercises and games to encourage imaginations, performing skills, vocabulary, and step-recall. (Class is 45 minutes.)
- Michael Jackson Repertoire 12+: We (USA) have had a lot of Icons and entertainers that influenced the art of dancing. With their personality, talent, and commitment they definitely leave a mark in our lives as person, as artist, as dancer. Michael Jackson was for sure one of them, a knowledgeable artist ahead of his time. Our teacher, T-vain had the major honor of being hired as a background dancer on "THIS IS IT". Using MJ tracks T-vain leads you to:warm up, teach moves, teach MJ grooves, get familiar with some of the dance styles that he knew and performed (Funk, Disco, Popping, Jazz, Fosse). Fun class that will work you up till you do the moonwalk and enjoy Michael Jackson’s essence.
- Ballet & Jazz Technique 8-12: A brand new technique class working the foundations of ballet and jazz. This class is geared toward creating strong, powerful, and flexible dancers. We will work on stretches to increase flexibility and conditioning exercises to strengthen. - D-TECH: Barre Workout 13+: (Dancer's Technique) If you are looking to improve your technique as a dancer, are a retired ballerina, or just want a low-impact workout this class is for you! Dancers will start at the barre doing various exercises to strengthen those awkward muscles that we only use in dance, but that give us those nice long legs. You’ll move into repetition of turns with assistance of the barre, which is great for beginners. Then eventually get into some conditioning of the core and back. Everyone works at their own pace and combinations are tailored for your specific needs. Anyone at any age can take this class and be successful at it.
- D-TECH: Turns & Leaps 9+: (Dancer's Technique) Feeling dizzy when you turn, having trouble staying up on that double/triple pirouttes, need some new exciting tricks? This is your class. Learn some key techniques that will guarantee you nail those turns. Get some essential stretches that will help the extension and height of those jetés. Also work on some innovative combinations of leaps and turns that will enhance your skill level in all styles of dance. Some more advanced steps include fouetté turns, second turns, switch leaps, reverse leaps and more. Remember it’s always good to brush up on those basics.
- D-TECH: Pro Intensive 9+: (Dancer's Technique): A 90-minute performance based class for dancers who are looking to take their training to the next level. Class focuses on intense technique and execution of turns, leaps, jumps and progressions while also working flexibility and endurance through intense stretching/toning excersises. Recommended for any dancer who is interesed in competitive dance experience and/or improving flexibility and technique. 45 minutes--stretching/toning; 45 minutes---technique based training.

- Youth Acting/Improv 7-10: The primary focus of this class is improvisation skills that are as useful in life as in acting. Students will build confidence, learn valuable communication skills, team working abilities, accountability, and creative problem solving. The best part of improv is that it’s so much fun students don’t even realize that they’re learning. The class also touches on scene work, monologues, auditioning, and other important foundations of performing. Because of the team aspect of improv and acting, students are expected to attend class regularly and be responsible for keeping up with scripts and memorizing lines.

Students will focus on developing fully realized characters for scripted and improvised work using various techniques and exercises to create depth and layers. When an actor can bring a completely realized character to an audition, casting directors take notice! Also covering everything from materials needed/expected at an audition, ettiquette once in the audition room, and how to approach different types of auditions being held (including monologues, cold reading, scene work, singing), including last class will be a mock audition in which the students will get to test the skills they've learned!

It takes more than a cleverly written joke to make an audience laugh. Students will learn the techniques and tricks of comedic acting as we explore sitcom scripts to develop comedic timing and skills. How do you tell a story in thirty seconds or less? Commercial acting and auditioning is unlike any other medium. In this session we'll learn how to get right to the heart of the matter with one look, one line, one take.

An exciting and practical approach the craft of acting for the stage. Learn great ensemble building exercises and gain a foundation to explore any script, while exploring how to "live believably in imaginary circumstances".

How is acting in musicals different than acting in plays, commercials, or tv/film? Characters express their emotions in song and dance! But how do we get these characters to a place of such heightened emotion? Through the ever-so-important SCENE WORK that leads up to a musical number. In acting for musical theater, we will discuss how the elements of a musical all come together to support the DRAMA of the story while we work on scenes from some of Broadway's most beloved musicals.

Ever had or heard of the actors' nightmare--on stage and not knowing your part or what to do? Well this class is just the medicine. We will challenge ourselves to work on sketches and scenes without the help of a director, a situation sketch comedians often find themselves in. We will also explore how to create interesting characters that are physically, vocally and emotionally dynamic, fun to play and still support the scene.
Disney Audition Technique (with Joel McCrary - currently on Disney XD's "Kickin' It"): 1/7, 1/21, 1/28
You have an audition for your favorite Disney show, so what can you do to give yourself the best shot at booking it? Joel McCrary - the actor who plays Bobby Wasabi on the new Disney XD hit show “Kickin’ It” gives you tips and insight on getting the job. Joel has an insiders perspective as a staff writer on “Kickin’ It” that gives you a unique peek behind the scenes of a Disney TV show.
- Sketch Comedy Show 7-18: ARC Students will write and perform their own musical sketch comedy show. Collaborative efforts of the students under the specialized guidance of several instructors create an amazing learning and performing opportunity for students. - Broadway Combos: This non-recital Broadway class will feature new choreography every two weeks. High energy class that involves proper body placement and alignment, stretches, and jazz technique while improving flexibility, strength, and musicality. Dancers also incorporate their individual expression and develop their personal style through characterization work. Broadway soundtracks and music are used in this class. Students may be asked to dance in character shoes.
- Broadway Jazz I-II 8-12: Broadway musicals burst with larger than life expression and dancing, and that is what a Broadway dance class is like at Relevé. Students combine acting and story telling through dance movements, usually jazz based. Learn upbeat musical numbers from today's popular musicals like Hairspray and Wicked to Broadway greats of yester-year like Cats, Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof and more. Every class is the ultimate exploration of the human story. Students leave feeling exhilarated! Come try one out!
- Ballet/Broadway 2-5: Your young student will love learning their ballet basics in this fun and upbeat class. Children not only learn early ballet vocabulary and movement, they also get to sing, dance and act out some of their favorite songs. When movement is paired with multiple senses, that movement becomes more enjoyable to learn and is associated with emotion, story, and sounds which will increase confidence, retention, coordination, and social development.
- Mini Musical Theatre 3-8:
An 8-week fun class where we discover the joy of dancing, singing and acting. Your child will enhance their movement, singing and imaginative abilities. Class focuses on learning, songs, simple choreography and acting out scenes from popular Broadway plays. (Selections have been from "The Lion King", "Annie", "Mary Poppins", "The Wizard of Oz", "Peter Pan", "Hairspray" and more.) Children will also play dress up, dance with props and use their own creativity to make up original stories. The final class is a showcase where your little thespians share with you a mini musical. $330 per semester or $180 per musical.

- Vocal Ensemble Workshop: An 8-week session where students will learn…The end of this workshop will coincide with our music recital where students will be able to display their vocal talents.
- Voice Lessons 6+: Private lessons with a classically trained recording artist whose voice has been heard on stage, film, television and commercials. Learn proper vocal technique to apply to all styles of music from musical theatre, pop, jazz, classical and more!
- Musical Theatre Workshop 7-18: ARC Fall 2011 production will be You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. A 12-week session where students will learn full musical- theatre scenes. Students will be acting, singing and dancing! This workshop concludes with a performance on the weekend of December 2-4. Must attend all Friday classes, tech & dress rehearsals, and performances. Cost is $550.

- Fitness: Individualized Group Training: Work with a personal trainer that will push your body to the limit. Individualized training geared toward each student's ability and goals. (Price is $15 for drop-in classes or $80 for 2-month package.)
- Adult Hawaiian 16+: This class is an hour filled with aerobic exercise and leg/core toning movements found in the traditional Polynesian dances. Learn to dance both graceful slow hulas and envigorating Tahitian O'teas (drum dances). (This class is okay for beginners.)
- Hip Hop (adult) 18+: A class specifically for adults. Fun, relaxed, and energetic learning environment to learn simple and effective hip-hop. Great exercise!
- D-TECH: Ballet 10+: As ballet is the foundation of all dance styles, this class is geared toward creating strong, powerful, and flexible dancers. We will work on stretches to increase flexibility and conditioning exercises to strengthen. We will also work on some technique like body placement, turns, and jumps to incorporate strength and flexibility. (This is not a recital class.) Technique is taught with a focus on understanding the body and how it works, coordination, musicality, strength, flexibility, etiquette, and discipline.
- 30-Min Fitness Express 13+: Work with a personal trainer that will push your body to the limit.
Cardio & Strength training for all levels.

We will work on stretches to increase flexibility and conditioning exercises to strengthen. We will also work on some technique like body placement, turns, and jumps to incorporate strength and flexibility. (This is not a recital class.) Technique is taught with a focus on understanding the body and how it works, coordination, musicality, strength, flexibility, etiquette, and discipline.
- D-TECH: Mini Intensive 5-12: Intensive Technique for Mini and Junior Company members and other students who want to push themselves further.
- Fit Kids 6-10: Imagine you could hire a personal trainer for your child, who would train them in nutrition and exercise. That's FIT KIDS! Personal Trainer, Trixie Arya, will conduct an 8-week class in exercise and nutrition specifically designed for kids. She's a mom of a 5.5 year old - so she knows the discipline it takes to keep kids active and still make healthy choices fun. Start setting some great life-time habits now!
- Jazz Funk 13+: Jazz up your Hip Hop moves in this exhilherating class! A workout with great choreo!!
- Adult Salsa 18+: Learn how to move like Fred and Ginger, This adult class teaches how to couple dance even without a partner, learn the salsa, chacha, East coast swing or even waltz! This class helps you lose weight, learn to coordinate movement, and improve posture and presentation skills. Everyone welcome even people with two left feet !
- D-TECH: Flexibility & Strength: A class that is geared toward creating strong, powerful, and flexible dancers. - D-TECH: Barre Workout 13+: (Dancer's Technique) If you are looking to improve your technique as a dancer, are a retired ballerina, or just want a low-impact workout this class is for you! Dancers will start at the barre doing various exercises to strengthen those awkward muscles that we only use in dance, but that give us those nice long legs. You’ll move into repetition of turns with assistance of the barre, which is great for beginners. Then eventually get into some conditioning of the core and back. Everyone works at their own pace and combinations are tailored for your specific needs. Anyone at any age can take this class and be successful at it.
- D-TECH: Pro Intensive 9+: (Dancer's Technique): A 90-minute performance based class for dancers who are looking to take their training to the next level. Class focuses on intense technique and execution of turns, leaps, jumps and progressions while also working flexibility and endurance through intense stretching/toning excersises. Recommended for any dancer who is interesed in competitive dance experience and/or improving flexibility and technique. 45 minutes--stretching/toning; 45 minutes---technique based training.
- Fitness: Mat Pilates 9+:
Katie's mat class is a unique approach to physical conditioning. She focuses on lengthening and strengthening the body while applying emphases to the development of the spine-supporting “Powerhouse” muscles. It is a mindful approach that demands concentration, attention to correct form, and breath control throughout class. Dancers will learn to engage their stomach muscles, essential for turning, leaping, and virtually every aspect of dance. Non-dancers will enjoy the non-impact fitness benefits and visable toning. A variety of different ways will be employed for the development of your core, benefitting your dancing and your daily life! (Priced at $15 each for drop-in classes, or $80 for 2-month package.)
