Classes Offered
Dance
All classes are 60 minutes, unless indicated otherwise.
ARC: ARC classes have an Attendance Requirement Contract that must be signed by students (and guardians for those under 18) at registration. These classes may also have a prerequisite, or require attendance in multiple classes to keep up technique.
Ballet:
- Ballet 2-3: This 45-minute class is designed for our youngest dancers, who want to express their independence without the assistance of their parent. Dancers will have fun learning ballet movements and their proper terms all while dancing to popular children's music and playing movement games. Each student will also learn valuable social skills such as, taking turns, sharing, and staying in your space bubble. Props, such as, boas, ribbons, and maracas are used to enhance the learning experience.
- Ballet [I] 4-5: (Jodi) The foundation of all dance styles, this hour-long class is a fantastic introductory class. Children will learn the most basic steps and vocabulary in a nurturing, fun environment, mostly following the Vaganova system, with a few alterations. Mixed into the hour is the use of creative exercises and games to encourage imaginations, performing skills, vocabulary, and step-recall.
- Ballet [I] 5-7: (Julie) This is the perfect age to begin laying the foundation of all dance styles - ballet. Students in this class are capable of learning a lot of the basic vocabulary and steps (turns, leaps, positions, etc.) that will help them in future dance classes, as well as building grace and strength helping them in everyday life. This class is a great mixture of work, fun, and work disguised as fun.
- Ballet [I] 7-10: (Jodi) The foundation of all dance styles. Mostly following the Vaganova system, with a few alterations, technique is taught with a focus on understanding the body and how it works, coordination, musicality, strength, flexibility, etiquette, and discipline. Steps and vocabulary increase by level.
- Ballet (all levels): The foundation of all dance styles. Technique is taught under the Vaganova System, focusing on the understanding of the body, its use in the dance style, coordination, musicality, strength building, flexibility and discipline. Introduction of steps and vocabulary increases by level.
- Ballet (Int/Adv) 13+: ARC See ballet (all levels) description above.
- Barre Workout: This class is a pure technique class. Dancers will spend an hour at the Barre doing various series of ballet exercises. This class is great for anyone who wants to continue ballet for the fitness aspects or for anyone looking to improve their skills and advance their ballet level. (offered twice a week: Mondays & Saturdays)
- Pointe: ARC Taught under the Vaganova System. Focuses on ballet technique while working on strengthening ankles and feet, learning to control one's body on pointe. Class admittance based on instructor and owner approval.
Combo Classes: Often for younger students, these combo classes will work ½ the time on one style and ½ the time on another. Perfect for those with shorter attention spans.
- Ballet/Broadway Combo [I] 3-4: (Jodi) This hour-long class is a great introductory to two different styles of dance and a wonderful way to keep our youngest students’ attention for a full hour! The main focus is ballet, which is the foundation of all dance styles and movement. The secondary style, Broadway, is very energetic, fun and showy. Children will learn the most basic steps and vocabulary in a nurturing, fun environment. Mixed into the hour is the use of creative exercises and games to encourage imaginations, performing skills, vocabulary, and step-recall, making this class a highlight of each students’ week.
- Ballet/Tap Combo 4-5: (Julie) This class offers foundations in two dance styles for the younger student in need of variety. Students learn basic vocabulary and steps for both ballet and tap, plus fun movement games, rhythm, musicality, routines, and class structure.
Ballroom:
- Ballroom and Latin Dance Class (7-16): A fun way to learn to partner up and learn how to dance like the stars. You will learn coordination, movement, and dancing steps (cha cha, samba, rumba, jive, swing, tango, salsa, waltz, foxtrot and more). No partner needed for these group classes.
- Ballroom and Latin Dance Class (16+): A fun way to learn to partner up and learn how to dance like the stars. You will learn coordination, movement, and dancing steps. All are great for social events or even competitions. Bring a partner or come stag, all are welcome!!!
Broadway:
- Broadway Babies 3-4: (with parents) A fun 45-minute class where you can share the joy of dancing, singing and acting with your little thespian. Your child will enhance their movement, singing and imaginative abilities. Class focuses on learning, songs, simple choreography and acting out scenes from popular Broadway plays, such as Annie and The Wizard of Oz. Children will also play dress up, dance with props and use their own creativity to make up original stories.
- Broadway Jazz [I] 5-7: A fun, one hour, class that involves learning body placement, stretches, basic jazz technique, and involves individual expression. Broadway soundtracks and music are used in this class. This class also includes basic acting exercises and singing along with the movement.
- Broadway Jazz [I] 6-8: (Jodi) Very stylized, show-themed numbers are the concentration of this class. Children will learn the most basic dance steps and vocabulary in a nurturing, fun environment. Creative exercises are used to encourage imaginations, performing skills, vocabulary, and step-recall. Steps and vocabulary increase by level.
- Broadway Jazz [II-III] 8-12: (Jodi) Very stylized, show-themed numbers are the concentration of this class. Turns, leaps, core strength, flexibility, and attack and follow-through of movement are a focus in the warm-up, across-the-floor, center work, and combinations. A very heavy emphasis is placed on performance skills and the ability to pick up choreography and style. Singing and acting skills will be exercised from time to time in this class. Steps and vocabulary increase by level.
- Broadway Jazz [Int] 13+: High energy class that involves proper body placement and alignment, stretches, and jazz technique while improving flexibility, strength, and musicality. Dancers also incorporate their individual expression and develop their personal style through characterization work. Broadway soundtracks and music are used in this class. This class also includes basic acting exercises and singing along with the movement. Must also be enrolled in one ballet class per week.
Contemporary:
- Contemporary Jazz (II-III) 8-12: A mix of jazz, ballet, and modern, this one-hour class will focus on technique, correct body placement, core strength, musicality, and exploring the fusion of 3 dance styles in warm up, across the floor, center work, and combinations. Ballet requirement for contemporary- must be enrolled in one ballet class per week
- Contemporary Jazz (Int) 13+: A mix of jazz, ballet, and modern, this one-hour class will focus on technique, correct body placement, core strength, musicality, and exploring the fusion of 3 dance styles in warm up, across the floor, center work, and combinations. Ballet requirement for contemporary- must be enrolled in one ballet class per week
Flamenco:
- Flamenco: ARC Passionate and vibrant dance style with coordinated footwork, arm work, handwork and skirt work. Flamenco dance and music consists of several rhythms, which are taught one by one, in its entirety. Commitment and emotional vulnerability are required for this class. All levels are offered. (7-Adult)
Hawaiian/Tahitian:
- Hawaiian: Basic footwork, hip and hand movements associated with Hawaiian, Tahitian, and Maori dance are covered, along with the Hawaiian and Tahitian words for the movements. In addition, students memorize Hawaiian chants (Hula Kahiko) to accompany their dances. All levels will learn the four foundation numbers (Kawika, Lili'u E, Kalakaua, and Aia La O Pele) and Hula au'ana numbers - modern hula, Tahitian O'tea (drum dances) and Tahitian Aparima (Tahitian "hand dance" similar to hula). Intermediate and advanced classes will also learn to use the Hawaiian implements: ipu, uli uli, pu'ili and kala'au.
Hip Hop (and Jazz Funk):
- Half-Pint Hip-Hop™ (ages 2-3, or 3-4): Yes your little one can be funky too! This high-energy class is all about learning rhythm, body awareness, spatial awareness (staying in your space bubble), and simple choreography. Your hip hopper will enhance their coordination, musicality and creative thought while dancing to children's music set to a hip hop beat.
- Hip Hop I: Fun, relaxed, and energetic learning environment to learn simple and effective hip-hop.
- Hip Hop II/III: For an experienced dancer who is looking to grow in a fun and energetic learning environment. Monday 5pm class is ARC.
- Hip Hop (open): Advanced, intricate, and diverse styles in a relaxed atmosphere.
- Hip Hop/Jazz Funk (ages 5 and up) (Brianne): A combination of hip hop choreography and jazz technique, with heavy emphasis on performing choreography and transitions at 150%, hip hop "attitude", core strength, and self discipline. This class will teach basic jazz fundamentals, musicality, and reference all styles of dance. We start with the basics and move forward based on the ability of the class. Most of all...we must have FUN!
- Hip Hop/Jazz Funk (Int/Adv) 13+ (Matt & Ferly): Consists of fresh and innovative choreography brought by two distinctive style of dancers, fused into one class. It requires energy, discipline, and complete effort, while encouraging self-confidence, growth and character development.
- Lyrical Hip hop: A popular dance style that emphasizes linear movements and focuses on mastering musicality. It is a good way for young ballet and jazz dancers to be introduced to hip hop.
Jazz:
- Jazz (all levels): Hip and fun, this class works a dancer's technique, lines, strength, flexibility, style and performance. (Ages 5-Adult)
- Jazz [I] 7-9 (Heather): A one-hour class that teaches the basics of jazz technique. This class focuses on proper body placement, learning musicality, stretching, fundamental movements, and gaining confidence.
- Jazz [I-II] 8-12 (Jodi): Hip and fun, this class works a dancer's technique and lines. Turns, leaps, core strength, flexibility, and attack and follow-through of movement are a focus in the warm-up, across the floor, center work, and combinations. Steps and vocabulary increase by level.
- Jazz (II-III) 8-12 (Chantal): Fun and energetic, this class assumes students already have an intermediate understanding of jazz technique and vocabulary, This class will continue to progress into more advanced technique, working on flexibility, core strength, turns, leaps, musicality, and quality of movement.
- Urban Jazz: A fusion of Hip Hop and Jazz Funk. It incorporates the hard hitting, high energy style of Hip Hop while keeping the foundation of technique and body lines from jazz. This is a high energy class for the disciplined dancer that requires all the students to try their best and HAVE FUN!!!! You won't be disappointed!
Lyrical:
- Lyrical: A cross between Ballet & Jazz, lyrical gives dancers the opportunity to dance with a little more freedom and style while enhancing their technique. Dancers will be able to work on their flexibility, technique and musicality. This is an amazing class to express “you”!
Tap:
- Tap [I-II] 5-7: (Jodi) Fast paced and energetic, this rhythmic class focuses on basic tap vocabulary and steps. Performance skills and musicality are emphasized. Steps and vocabulary increase by level.
- Tap (Int) 10-16: (Jodi) ARC Fast paced and energetic, this rhythmic class already has an understanding of basic and intermediate tap vocabulary and steps. More intricate rhythms and musicality are required of the student, as well as performance skills, as the class works towards more advanced technique and steps.
- Tap (Beg) Adult: A fun, one-hour class that teaches the fundamentals of how to create different sounds and rhythms. This class will increase strength, stamina, and coordination. There is a focus on clarity of sound and as students' progress they will gain control and speed and will work more on syncopation.
- Tap (Beg) 13-18: A one-hour rhythmic class that will teach the fundamentals of tap technique and vocabulary. As students progress, the class will focus on clarity, control, musicality, and more complex rhythms.
- Tap (Int) Adult: A one-hour rhythmic class that focuses on expanding tap vocabulary and steps. Students are required to handle more complex rhythms and musicality as the class progresses into more advanced technique.
- Tap (Adv) 13+: ARC High energy and fast paced, this class will focus on complex rhythms and steps. Musicality, clarity, performance skills, and advanced technique will be emphasized.
Turns and Leaps:
- Turns and Leaps 13+: (Pre-requisite: Must be enrolled in either jazz or ballet class or both in addition to this class.) Increase knowledge of ballet and jazz technique while working on pirouettes, jetes, tricks, proper body placement and alignment, and increasing flexibility.
Performance Team & Competition Company

This group is for the dedicated dancer who displays drive and an unwavering work ethic. Continued growth in technique and performance skills and a great attitude are required. Company has a duel purpose of competing in dance competitions and community events through out the year (Junior Company = ages 9-12; Senior Company = ages 13-18).
Music
Guitar: Private guitar lessons offered to all levels and ages. (Ages 8 and up)
Piano: Private piano lessons offered to all levels and ages. (Ages 6 and up)
Musical Theatre Workshop: See acting.
Music Theory and Songwriting: Private 30-minute lessons for the beginning or advanced student. (Ages 12 and up)
Vocal Ensemble Workshop: An 8-week session where students will learn … The end of this workshop will coincide with our music recital where students will be able to display their vocal talents.
Voice Lessons: Private lessons with a classically trained recording artist whose voice has been heard on stage, film, television and commercials. Learn proper vocal technique to apply to all styles of music from musical theatre, pop, jazz, classical and more! (Ages 6-Adult)
Acting
General acting workshops are 8 weeks long and are leveled by age and experience.
Sessions offered will cover different aspects of stage work, film, television and commercials. More specific acting styles and methods are also available as a class. (ie. Improv, Cold Reading, Musical Theatre)
- Youth Acting/Improv 7-10: (Julie) The primary focus of this class is improvisation skills that are as useful in life as in acting. Students will build confidence, learn valuable communication skills, team working abilities, accountability, and creative problem solving. The best part of improv is that it’s so much fun students don’t even realize that they’re learning. The class also touches on scene work, monologues, auditioning, and other important foundations of performing. Because of the team aspect of improv and acting, students are expected to attend class regularly and be responsible for keeping up with scripts and memorizing lines.
- Youth Acting/Improv 11-18: (Julie) Students in this class will learn a strong foundation in performing with a focus on improvisation and will be expected to use that foundation to build higher performance skills and life skills. This class is primarily an improv class that also touches on scene work, monologues, creating sketches, and auditioning. Because of the team aspect of improv and acting, students are expected to attend class regularly and be responsible for keeping up with scripts and memorizing lines.
Musical Theatre:
- Musical Sketch Comedy Show 7-18: ARC Students will write and perform their own musical sketch comedy show. Collaborative efforts of the students under the specialized guidance of several instructors create an amazing learning and performing opportunity for students. Must attend all Saturday classes, tech & dress rehearsals, and performances.
- Musical Theatre Workshop 7-18 (Spring): ARC Spring 2009 production will be Schoolhouse Rock A 12-week session where students will learn full musical- theatre scenes. Students will be acting, singing and dancing! This workshop concludes with a performance.

Fitness
One-hour fitness classes in a variety of styles such as Pilates, Cardio-Dance, Stretch & Tone, Yoga, Bootcamp and more!
- Cardio Dance: A one hour, high energy, cardiovascular workout incorporating dance, resistance training, and stretching.
- Dancer's Stretch and Tone: (Pre-requisite: Must be enrolled in either jazz or ballet or both in addition to this class.) Explore how to stretch at your full potential and how to get the most out of each stretch. This class incorporates basic to advanced stretches as well as light conditioning of the arms, legs, and abdominal muscles. Great for increasing flexibility, increasing strength, and increasing muscle tone.
- Barre Workout: See dance. While this class is great for fitness, it is priced like our other dance classes.
- Pilates/Yoga: A combination class practicing both Pilates and yoga.
- Bootcamp: Work with a personal trainer that will push your body to the limit.
- Zumba: An aerobic workout mixing body sculpting movements with dance steps derived from cumbia, merengue, salsa, reggaeton, hip hop, mambo, rumba, flamenco, and calypso and Salsaton. The routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms, targeting areas such as the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and the heart.
